Spectacular view from one side of the wide mountain valley, looking down into the valley and up the other side. The line of sight exits a gap in the high elevation evergreen forest providing a perfect view down into the distant valley with a shallow lake surrounding a small treed island. Beyond the water, the trees reclaim the landscape stretching all the way up the other side of the valley until they give way to the unstable rock of the high mountains on the other side. Wherever I go I am on alert for those fleeting moments when the world reveals a special image with that magical combination of atmosphere, texture, character, and purity, cleverly disguised and woven into the fabric of the every day. Sometime you only have a split second to capture it. Sometime … maybe once every 1,000 times … you get it just right and are able to record and preserve an exquisite visual memento that otherwise would have vanished, lost forever in the relentless motion of space, light, and time.
