Old Larch Tree Has Best View: This old larch tree has the best view. It has endured freezing winter temperatures of minus 40 degrees, searing summer heat, torrential rain, heavy snow, golf ball hail, and cloaks of ice, as it faithfully kept watch over this spectacular panoramic valley for decades. A few weeks earlier, when it dropped all its golden needles, the ground was completely blanketed by a soft gilded carpet. Wherever I go I am on alert for those fleeting moments when the world reveals a special image with that magical combination of atmosphere, texture, character, and purity, cleverly disguised and woven into the fabric of the every day.
