The Gathering: I first met this group of lanky, 21� tall, bronze people on Isle St. Helen in front of the British Pavillion at Expo 67 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada where the statues, created by Mario Armengol, (sculptor/artist) were known as the �Family of Man�. Years later they were purchased by Maxwell Cummings and Sons of New Brunswick and donated to the city of Calgary where they can always gather at the same spot, rain or shine, in front of the Calgary Board of Education building. Wherever I go I am on alert for those fleeting moments when the world reveals a special image with that magical combination of atmosphere, texture, character, and purity, cleverly disguised and woven into the fabric of the every day. Sometime you only have a split second to capture it. Sometime … maybe once every 1,000 times … you get it just right and are able to record and preserve an exquisite visual memento that otherwise would have vanished, lost forever in the relentless motion of space, light, and time. The camera is my tool and "digital film" is my canvas.
