Description
On duty: This ornate, black wrought iron gate was originally from England. Constructed during the 1800s, its classic design complements the arching branches of the trees, the splendor of the brilliant autumn leaves, and the old style lamp posts. It now stands proudly on duty adjacent the Calgary Centre for Performing Arts at the southeast entrance of the Calgary Olympic Plaza, where gold, silver, and bronze medals were presented to Olympians during the medal award ceremonies at the 1988 Winter Olympic Games. Barely visible through the branches is the Calgary City Hall and the Calgary Public Library near the Calgary Board of Education building and the Rocky Mountain Plaza which housed provincial court rooms, a department of the Calgary Police Service, and the U.S. Consulate.
