Description
Reflective Creek: In a different setting, beautiful little Louise Creek draining Lake Louise, might be the centre of attention, but here, it is overshadowed by its world famous big sister. Little do most people know that this calm, meek little stream soon turns into a raging torrent, rushing down steep slopes and crashing over boulders as it hurtles to the valley bottom 3 kms below and flows into the Bow River to continue its journey eastward. The Bow River flows right across southern Alberta through Banff, Canmore, Cochrane, Calgary and Brooks. Further south it joins the Old Man River and together they form the South Saskatchewan River which flows through Medicine Hat, Alberta and into Saskatchewan. It continues all the way across that province carrying with it, the water from Louise Creek. After flowing through Saskatoon it is reinforced by the waters of the North Saskatchewan River. That river started in Jasper, Alberta and ran through Edmonton. Together they flow into the northern end of enormous Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba. Not far from its point of entry it exits again with a new name, the Nelson River and continues its travels through a network of waterways until finally entering the salt water of the mighty Hudson Bay south of Churchill, Manitoba. So you see, that little Louise Creek has quite a story of her own! Gorgeous autumn morning in late November at Lake Louise, Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada. Copyright Greg Hammond.
